Eyelid Beautifying Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure which can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient's field of vision.
Upper Lid Blepharoplasty
With the passage of time eyelids become sagging and drooping due to loose excess skin and weak eyelid muscle (ptosis). This is a natural aging process and occurs due to loss of skin elasticity or too much rubbing of eyes due to allergies. Eyelids are some of the first areas that exhibit signs of aging. Rarely, droopy eyelids can be present since birth because of a disease process.
Some of the most common complaints associated with drooping or sagging upper lids are:
- Lids feeling heavy.
- Looking tired or worn down.
- One or both lids hanging down covering the pupil and interfering with the vision.
- A decrease in side vision (peripheral vision).
- Having to raise the chin up in order to see.
- Having to manually raise the upper lids to see.
- Eyes feeling as if they’re closing when reading or watching television.
Eyelid beautifying surgery is a painless procedure and is performed using local anesthesia in our out-patient surgery center. Normal functions are not limited, there are no bandages placed over the eyes, and vision is not affected. Most importantly, patients are able to return to work and their normal activities within a couple of days following surgery!
Lower Lid Blepharoplasty
Puffy, baggy lower lids are caused by fat around the eyeball shifting forward over time. This usually occurs as a result of the natural aging process, inheritance, or excessive rubbing of the eyes. The most common complaints associated with puffy, baggy lower lids are:
- Looking tired or worn down
- Unflattering appearance
Lower eyelid fat bags can be removed with lower eyelid Blepharoplasty. In this surgery the extra fat is removed through a very fine and small cut in the lower eyelid skin or a transconjunctival approach used only by our cosmetic surgeons in Pakistan. A transconjunctival blepharoplasty is performed by removing the fat from the inside of the lower lid rather than cutting through the outside skin. The transconjunctival approach eliminates the scar associated with a through-the-skin approach as there are no cuts on the skin – so it is truly a scar-less surgery. We use the world’s best radiofrequency device Ellman to perform lower lid blepharoplasty. This is the latest device used by some of the finest surgeons at leading cosmetic surgery centers around the globe.
In most cases, the skin of the lower lid snaps back into place after the fat is removed. However, in some cases, excess skin needs to be removed and the lid needs to be tightened. This can be achieved either with surgery or by using our state-of-the-art Mosaic Laser without any downtime.
